Toen stormde het nog voor de storm en kroop het bloed nog waar het niet gaan kon. Die pioniersgeest moet terug en het vehikel hiervoor heet Sonic Connections, het driedaags festival in de Brakke Grond waarop het nieuwste uit de pop- en rockwereld van Vlaanderen en Nederland te horen is. Met drie avonden Vlaamse en Nederlandse bandjes, verassingsacts en dj's. Bijzondere optredens waar visuals en muziek samenkomen en een exclusief optreden van Dijf Sanders en Johannes Verschaeve (van The Van Jets). Voor de muziekjournalisten is er een tweedaagse workshop rond pop- en rockjournalistiek geleid door Bart Meuleman. www.myspace.com/sonicconnections www.brakkegrond.nl Donderdag 02.04.09 deuren open 20h00 - aanvang 20h30 Louisa's Daughter (B) Band rond Liesa van der Aa, afgestudeerd kleinkunst aan het Herman Teirlinck Instituut. Vroeger solo met stem, viool en een 'loop station'. Inmiddels omringd door ervaren muzikanten. Stoere muziek, rauw en teder tegelijk. Live composities geen uitzondering. Les Singes (NL) French toast jong belegen bestreken met marmelade. Beter geen ontbijtmetafoor. Er waren eens twee Amsterdammers met een hoorbare liefde voor Franse chansons die slimme, Engelstalige popliedjes maakten. Onlangs in voorprogramma Novastar. Motek - Do you us too V3.0 (B) Audiovisueel collectief maakt filmische rockmuziek: avontuurlijk, melodieus, meeslepend en bezwerend. Speelt achter projectiedoeken waarop een zondvloed aan beelden te zien is. Na China eindelijk in Nederland te ervaren. Exclusief op Sonic Connections. I love Sarah (B) Mechelse 'muzaknoise'. Ontspoorde trein met richtingaanwijzer. De gezworen kameraden Rudy Perdu (gitaren, toetsen, stem) en Jani Jani (drums, percussie, toetsen, stem) ontwrichten virtuoos elk denkbaar genre. Eclectisch? Eerder avant-garde met ballen. Vrijdag 03.04.09 deuren open 20h00 - aanvang 20h30 Ansatz der Maschine (B) Liefdesbaby van geluidstechnicus Mathijs Bertel. Dromerige elektronica, viool, gitaar, sax, met een straffe samplesaus van bleeps en beats. Live bijgestaan door drie muzikanten en betoverende visuals. Jongste album heet treffend: Painting bad weather on her Body. LPG (NL) Eigenzinnige, 'glorieus-melodieuze' popliedjes met meerstemmige zang en onverwachte wendingen, daarop leven deze mannen uit Hoogezand-Sappemeer. Die Nokia-commercial, het contract bij Excelsior en de lovende pers zijn uiteraard bijzaak. boyShouting (B) Akoestisch hypnotiserend, door merg en been elektrificerend, de bluesdemonen bezwerend, wie spelen daar toch zo intens? Hmm. Het is Marc Wetzels solo, band op zichzelf. Gitaarlijn, ritme waarop je vooruit moet, stem van gerafeld fluweel. Fascinerend. The Moi Non Plus (NL) Onmogelijk. Twee man en dan zo'n knetterend, zandgestraald geluid. The Moi Non Plus heeft genoeg aan zichzelf: Leon Caren op drums en Bas Morsch op gitaar en zang imponeren door strakke noiserock. Johannes Verschaeve (B) Opsporingsbericht: jonge, Vlaamse multi-instrumentalist Dijf Sanders mengt elektronica met oude jazz, vaudeville en blues. Klassiek geschoold. Brengt vreemde klanken voort. Speelt speciaal op Sonic Connections met Johannes Verschaeve, de voorman van de Oostends-Gentse band The Van Jets. Trixie Whitley (B/VS) Opgegroeid in een smeltkroes van artiesten, muzikanten en poëten. Afwisselend in Gent en New York. Trok de wereld rond als drummer, danseres en dj. Is bovenal singer-songwriter, en ook souldiva en podiumbeest: een engel met de blues. Daily Bread (NL) Drie jonge honden op een rij, waarvan één poëtische dame met een philicorda-orgel. Spelen met telefoons en sambaballen de pannen van de daken. Stijl: sexy garage dance. Live onverwoestbaar. Winnaar van de Kleine Prijs van Friesland, bijna van die ene Grote. Madensuyu (B) Duivels, tochtig werkplaatsmetaal van Gents duo veroverde ooit de derde plaats in Humo's onvolprezen Rock Rally. Ook op soundtrack van Brusselmans Ex-drummer. Nieuwste met plutonium geladen cd D is done luistert lekker weg bij molotovcocktails. foto: Daily Bread Workshop pop- en rockjournalistiek, 3 & 4 april Tijdens Sonic Connections geeft schrijver en essayist Bart Meuleman op 3 en 4 april van 14h00 - 17h00 een workshop rond pop- en rockjournalistiek aan enkele aspirant muziekjournalisten. Trixie Whitley (B/VS) Grew up in a melting pot of artists, musicians and poets. Lived in Ghent and New York in turn. Went round the world as a drummer, a dancer and a dj. Is mainly a singer-songwriter, but also a soul diva and a stage tiger: an angel with the blues. Daily Bread (NL) Three puppy dogs in a row, one of them a poetic lady with a philicorda-organ. Playing around with telephones and maracas, they will make the house come down. Style: sexy garage dance. Live indestructible. Winner of the Kleine Prijs van Friesland, and nearly the Big One.
